It's My Time!
This past New Year’s Eve, my Pastor brought forth a prophetic word from God. The word was “It’s My Time”. This word, although powerful, was not a surprise, but more of a confirmation.
It brings to mind a piece that I distributed in an email a few months ago entitled “Are you a victim or a victor?" This was birthed out of my own testimony that supports the notion of how the hand that we’ve been dealt in the past can have a direct impact on how we operate in the present.
Abuse was the hand that I was dealt… It began as physical and verbal abuse that manifested and reinvented itself in different forms, i.e., mental, emotional and the like, throughout the phases and stages of my life. Today, I stand victorious, as God has been gracious enough, through divine revelation to expose the root – the core underlying issue that was affecting my quality of life.
This revelation then positioned me to learn more about the disease, I choose to call abuse. I use the term disease because if we examine the stages of any illness, the tell tale signs are the symptoms.
For me, the onslaught of symptoms became a series of unhealthy relationships, friendships and acquaintances where I was often abused, misused and mistreated. I gave above and beyond, even in the midst of abuse, seeking love and acceptance that I did not have for myself, much of which abuse stole from me. Just like any disease, treating the symptoms only provides temporary relief, and in extreme cases we become more ill with each new attack of the disease. Medicating the symptoms only manages to camouflage the “real” problem.
Once properly diagnosed, we can begin to treat the “core” issue and the symptoms begin to subside and the healing begins. We become more aware of what triggers the negative side effects of the disease and we can then refrain from and/or remove ourselves from situations that bring on symptoms we readily recognize. We often equate healing with physical illness, but God is a healer and through revelation and deliverance we can be healed from terminal diseases.
The application of this principle applies to both the offenders and the recipients; in keeping with our topic, the abuser and the abused. Abusers are just as ill as the abused. Most abusers tend to be the abused whose disease has gone untreated. Untreated abuse sets the stage for the recipient [the abused] to become the offender [the abuser].
Victor vs. Victim is a choice and the basis of this choice is how you view your situation whether past or present. If you are still terminally ill, Choose Life, Get Help!
If you are a survivor of abuse or any other destructive disease, speak victory… Don’t let your past circumstance dictate your current state. Victims accept defeat. Victors choose life! Speak life and share your experiences and testimony to uplift and encourage others.
Here’s an illustration… The original state of a diamond is far from beautiful. It resembles a piece of black coal, very unattractive; covered with soot and dirt. A diamond then enters into a process of refinement, much like us as we enter into God’s refinement process that purges our impurities and brings forth the enhanced product. I like to call it the “tion” [shun] process: realization~ revelation~ transition~ purification~ preparation~ manifestation~
Realization brings about consciousness; awareness and acceptance. Revelation is the unveiling; disclosure, then deliverance and healing can begin. Transition implies a change; a shift. Purification rids us of the residue, the cleansing process; the freeing. Preparation builds substance, endurance and patience. It readies us for God’s Manifestation –where He delivers on His promise.
The scriptures state in Proverbs 18:21 that “Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof”. Which will you choose to love? Death or life? I encourage you to choose life! Speak life!
Today I am living a fulfilling life as opposed to merely existing. Christ died that we may have LIFE and LIFE more abundantly. With God “ALL” things are possible and I live with the expectancy that great things are in store. I am fearfully and wonderfully made.~Psalm 139:14; I am stronger and through prayer, I am wiser and more discerning.
Right now, I do not have a significant other. It's not that I don’t’ have a desire to have someone special in my life. Today, I guard over my gifts, and am more selective as to who I give significance to; inclusive of friends, acquaintances, associates, etc. I am significant. I matter. I refuse to settle. I can't settle. I won't settle… Been there! Done that! Bought the t-shirt and the mug... so I’ll let go and let God!
I AM A VICTOR! I CHOOSE LIFE! I SPEAK LIFE!
IT’S MY TIME!
